Assistant Coach and VIP Camp Director - Jeff Oleck

Jeff Oleck returns home to the pitch where he put together a stellar playing career, now joining the Valparaiso men’s soccer program as an assistant coach starting in 2009.

Oleck spent three years from 2006-2009 as an assistant coach, focusing on working with the goalkeepers, and recruiting coordinator at Wabash College.  In his time at Wabash, he helped coach nine All-NCAC selections and shaped the Little Giants defense with his goalkeeping expertise, as the team sliced over half a goal off its goals against average during Oleck’s time there.

Oleck has also gained significant coaching experience outside the collegiate realm.  Currently, he serves as the Senior Program Director of Coaching for Northwest Indiana United F.C., a premier soccer club based out of Chesterton, IN.  He is the Indiana ODP head goalkeeper coach and has worked with various other camps and clinics such as the Indiana Goalkeeper Academy, Indiana Soccer Camp, and Valpo VIP Camp.  In addition, Oleck was the head coach for the Dynamo U16 boys squad in 2008 which won the Indiana Soccer League and qualified for the State Cup quarterfinals.  He also guided the Dynamo U15 squad to CIYSL and Challenge Cup titles in 2007. 

A four-year starter in the net for the Crusaders, Oleck earned Second Team All-Mid-Continent Conference honors in 2005 after a season in which he registered a 1.71 goals against average, third-lowest in program history, and five shutouts, second-most in a single season all-time at Valpo.  He ended his four-year career with a school-record 14 shutouts and a 2.05 GAA, second-lowest in program history.  He also tallied 345 saves in goal for his career, second-most all-time at Valpo and third in Mid-Con history.

Oleck graduated from Valparaiso in 2006 with a degree in biology, along with a business administration minor and is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Sports Administration at Valparaiso University.  He holds his NSCAA National Goalkeeping License and the USSF National “B” License.

 

 Assistant Coach - Andy McCaslin

Andy McCaslin continues in his thirds season as an assistant on the Crusader coaching staff.  In his first season, Valpo enjoyed one of its finest defensive campaigns in program history, giving up just 28 goals over its 18 matches.  He also served as the camp director for the Valpo Soccer VIP program in 2009, which drew in over 100 campers for the two summer sessions.

Prior to arriving at Valpo, McCaslin has spent time as a team trainer/head coach for ALITHSA and as head coach for the Junior Irish Soccer Club.  In addition to his duties with the Crusaders, he also currently is the head coach of the NWI United FC U-15 boys squad, as well as an assistant coach within the Indiana ODP.  He holds his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, his USSF National “C” License and his National Youth License.

McCaslin played intercollegiate soccer for three seasons at DePauw University, where he earned letters all three years.  He graduated from DePauw with a degree in English Writing in 2004


 

 

Director of Soccer Operations - Cailean Bailey

 Cailean Bailey completed his first full year as Valparaiso’s Director of Soccer Operations after joining the program in the spring of 2009.  In his position, Bailey is responsible for assisting in equipment management, travel, recruiting, compliance and video, while also helping to organize camps and clinics and community service activities.

Bailey owns previous coaching experience at the Jacksonville [Ill.] Soccer Club, where he coached from 2007-2008.  He currently holds his USSF “D” license, as well as NSCAA National Goalkeeping License. He also serves as a trainer for Indiana ODP.

Bailey was a four-year letterwinner at Illinois College, where he served as team captain for three seasons.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and rhetorical science, as well as a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational leadership (sport), from Illinois College in 2008, and is currently working towards his master’s degree in sports administration at Valpo.

Volunteer Assistant - Philip Ruskin

Phil Ruskin joins the Crusader coaching staff this season as a volunteer asssistant for the 2009 campaign.

Ruskin comes to Valpo from Elmhurst College, where he was a four-year letterwinner for the Blue Jays on the pitch.  He earned the team’s Golden Goal award as a senior in 2008.  Ruskin has also gained coaching experience with the Downers Grove Roadrunners FC, as well as conducting personal one-on-one training.  He is currently working towards his USSF “D” license.

Ruskin earned a bachelor’s degree in organziational communication from Elmhurst in 2008.  He is currently working towards a master’s degree in sports administration from Valparaiso.
